The script is available for download from GitHub here and you use it entirely at your own risk. It may seem to run slowly but that is most likely to be because it has to traverse each user’s profile in order to determine its size. Run with -verbose to get more detail as it runs such as what machine it is querying. It will write the profile information to a csv file if the -csv option is specified instead of displaying it in a grid view. The -name option can also be specified with either of these to restrict what machines are returned from the OU or group specified. This will be on all servers named CTXxxxx where xxxx is numerical, specified by regular expression, aka regex, which really aren’t that scarey, honest!Īn OU, either in canonical or distinguished name format, or AD group can be specified via the -OU and -group options respectively. This will exclude all local, as in non-domain, accounts and any accounts that start with SVC- as these may be service accounts that are best left well alone, unless the profile size is of a concern. It’s very simple to use, for example running the script with the following options will result in a grid view where any profiles that you want to delete can be selected and then the OK button pressed to delete them: & '.\Profile Cleaner.ps1' -excludeLocal -excludeUsers SVC-name '^CTX\d' Obviously the script will need to be run under an account that has the rights to remotely delete profiles. The deletion is achieved by calling the Delete() method of the win32_userprofile WMI object previously returned for that profile. Thanks to the great PowerShell Out-GridView cmdlet, it was straightforward to take the list of user profiles which were selected when the “OK” button was clicked in the grid view and then delete those profiles, albeit with PowerShell prompting for confirmation before deletions. The script requires the Active Directory PowerShell module to be present wher the script is run from since it will query AD and retrieve various AD properties for the domain users associated with profiles to make it easy to spot users who may have left because their AD account is disabled or their last AD logon was a long time ago. I’ve pulled out what I think are the most useful fields but if you were to use it, say, for persistent XenApp servers using roaming profiles then you might want to pull more of the fields out. This actually turned out to be easier than I anticipated, for once, in that I didn’t have to go anywhere near the ProfileList registry key directly since there is a WMI class Win32_UserProfile which contains the required information, albeit with the profile owner as a SID rather than username but in PowerShell it’s easy to get the username for a SID. copied to the clipboard from the properties of an OU in the AD Users and Computers MMC snap in) or an AD group. Having checked this manually for rather too long, I decided to write a script to give visibility of local profiles across a range of machines pulled from Active Directory where the machines to interrogate can be selected by a regular expression matching their name, an organisational unit (e.g. It can of course also be used on persistent XenApp/RDS servers to check for and delete stale or oversize profiles there. However, over time as people leave, we can get disk space issues caused by these stale profiles and even when people haven’t left, their profiles can become large without them realising which can potentially impact the performance of these servers since a machine with a full file system generally doesn’t function well. I’m not saying that this is an issue – it isn’t generally – as most people take the out of the box default which is local profiles. We EUC consultants can spend a considerable amount of time deciding on and building the most suitable user profile mechanism for our Citrix, VMware and RDS deployments but very little, if any, time is spent doing the same for infrastructure servers. If you add a filter with a strong output to a small aquarium, it will stress your betta. Does the filter have an adjustable output? It’s important to adjust the output of a filter in relation to the aquarium size. In a large aquarium there will be areas where a current does not affect the water, nor create ripples on the water’s surface, which will be a suitable environment for your betta as there will be parts of the aquarium where it can escape the current, and therefore it won’t be stressed. A strong output rate may not be an issue if you have a large aquarium, but can be a problem if your tank is small. You may pick up a filter that is perfect in terms of the filtration mediums that it offers, but has a strong output rate. Reliability – Will the filter consistently perform? Is it likely to clog-up or break down? Is it manufactured well? Always take other people’s’ experience with specific products into account when choosing a filter. The best filter for a betta will have these features: We love to hear about the setups that other people have created, so do let us know about your filtration system, or any other aspect of betta keeping that you would like to talk about. What we’ve included below is advice based on our own experience, but we do urge you to do further research yourself. This is very true of filtration - there are different things that you can try in order to achieve the optimum solution for your particular aquarium. There are certain practices that you should follow, but betta keeping also involves some degree of experimentation. Something to bear in mind when it comes to betta care (and fish keeping in general) is that there is no set way of doing things. We've included our own recommendations for a good filter above, but if you don't like the look of these and plan to choose a different one, here is some advice to help you with your decision. So, on to how to choose the best filter for a betta. Advice on choosing A Filter For your Betta This is a lighthearted story which is predictable, but nonetheless entertaining and which ends on a feelgood note. After assembly, the Bash Bar tubular frames sit firmly and can withstand a stronger impact in motorsport. There are corresponding tubular frames that either have to be specially made or can be ordered in various online shops using the plug-and-play method for frequently used vehicles. This process is possible both at the front and at the rear of the vehicle. The tubular frame can then be screwed on at this point. To assemble a bash bar, the bumper and bumpers must first be removed. How is a bash bar tubular frame assembled? The shape and size of the bash bar should be selected according to the car model, so that it can be attached precisely. There are both particularly light and reinforced or powder-coated versions. Bash bar tubular frames come in many different designs. It not only protects the driver, but also protects sensitive vehicle parts (engine components, etc.) from damage. The steel tube of a bash bar can absorb the impact energy better than conventional shock absorbers. The tubular frame serves as ramming protection and is used in motorsport. Depending on the application, they are attached to the front and / or the rear of a car to protect the body from damage. What is a Bash Bar Tube Frame?īash bars are made of welded steel tubes that form a frame. After assembly, they reliably protect the vehicle and driver in motorsport. Some of the robust frames are already available for a reasonable price and can be mounted on the vehicle relatively easily. This also includes so-called “bash bars” as stable tubular frames. There are many special tuning parts for vehicles that are used in motorsport. For Japan: Toyota Supra Plasma Orange 100 Edition & GT4 100! 29 April 2023 Since the early 20th century, nature’s fundamental constituents have been modeled as indivisible particles-the most familiar being electrons, quarks and neutrinos-that can be pictured as infinitesimal dots devoid of internal machinery. The idea underlying string unification is as simple as it is seductive. Such was the case until December 1984, when John Schwarz, of the California Institute of Technology, and Michael Green, then at Queen Mary College, published a once-in-a-generation paper showing that string theory could overcome the mathematical antagonism between general relativity and quantum mechanics, clearing a path that seemed destined to reach the unified theory. This set the stage for more than a half-century of despair as physicists valiantly struggled, but repeatedly failed, to meld general relativity and quantum mechanics, the laws of the large and small, into a single all-encompassing description. While spectacularly successful at predicting the behavior of atoms and subatomic particles, the quantum laws looked askance at Einstein’s formulation of gravity. Niels Bohr and a generation of intrepid explorers ventured deep into the microrealm, where they encountered quantum mechanics, an enigmatic theory formulated with radically new physical concepts and mathematical rules. Will the Large Hadron Collider’s ATLAS proton-smasher detect signs of strings?īut by 1930, the landscape of physics had thoroughly shifted. With these achievements, Einstein envisioned that a grand synthesis of all of nature’s forces was within reach. Ten years later, Einstein extended these insights with his general theory of relativity, providing the most refined description of gravity, the force governing the likes of stars and galaxies. In 1905, Einstein linked space and time, showing that motion through one affects passage through the other, the hallmark of his special theory of relativity. The next two steps, big ones at that, were indeed vintage Einstein. About 200 years later, James Clerk Maxwell took the unification baton for the next leg, showing that electricity and magnetism are two aspects of a single force described by a single mathematical formalism. Isaac Newton united the heavens and Earth, revealing that the same laws governing the motion of the planets and the Moon described the trajectory of a spinning wheel and a rolling rock. Unification has become synonymous with Einstein, but the enterprise has been at the heart of modern physics for centuries. That was 30 years ago this month, making the moment ripe for taking stock: Is string theory revealing reality’s deep laws? Or, as some detractors have claimed, is it a mathematical mirage that has sidetracked a generation of physicists? What followed proved to be the most exciting intellectual odyssey of my life. The only thing I needed to drop was a neophyte’s inhibition to run with the world’s leading physicists. The field was young, the terrain fertile and the atmosphere electric. Then, just a couple of months later, the prestigious (if tamely titled) journal Physics Letters B published an article that ignited the first superstring revolution, a sweeping movement that inspired thousands of physicists worldwide to drop their research in progress and chase Einstein’s long-sought dream of a unified theory. There’s nothing happening in fundamental physics. Change fields now while you still can, many said. But within a couple of weeks, the more advanced students had sucked the wind from my sails. I had a freshly minted bachelor’s degree in physics from Harvard, and I was raring to launch into graduate study. In October 1984 I arrived at Oxford University, trailing a large steamer trunk containing a couple of changes of clothing and about five dozen textbooks. Lazarus began collaborating with Barbarella, including producing shows at the Minnesota Orchestra and playing at St. When he first moved to the Twin Cities from New York, he met keyboardist Tommy Barbarella, who played with Prince for about 10 years. Meanwhile, Lazarus has been inspired by the work of AIAIA through his connections with St. Music is such a part of their culture there. “And yet, these schoolchildren came and they sang for us, and they danced, and we played for them,” Lazarus recalls. In another township, some of the homes were simply made of boards, with no plumbing or electricity. “I did see a lot of that poverty.” At one point, he played at a school that had been partially burned down and vandalized, with a playground covered in barbed wire. “It was just amazing to see people there, particularly the children there that are just absolutely not defined by their circumstance,” Lazarus says. While the Minnesota Orchestra’s trip was focused on cultural exchange, he saw some of the need in the country as they were traveling to different townships. Traveling in Africa, Lazarus says he saw up close the gaps between extreme poverty and extreme wealth and how that affects society. They also made connections with a South African group called 29:11 International Exchange with members from Cape Town, that helped share South African culture with the touring musicians during the trip. At the time, the Uptown Brass did a lot of outreach on their own, playing at places like the University of Pretoria, where Nelson Mandela went to college. On Minnesota Orchestra’s tour in 2018, Lazarus traveled with his wife, Mele Willis, artistic operations manager for the orchestra, and their then-11-year-old kid, where Lazarus and the other musicians played not only in concert halls but in various townships. The Chuck Lazarus Band has performed with the orchestra and elsewhere, playing everything from originals to reconditioned covers of older tunes. Lazarus has been a member of the Minnesota Orchestra since 2000, and also has a career as a soloist, composer and bandleader with his ensemble. “It’s an exciting kind of serendipitous convergence of various relationships I’ve developed over the years,” Lazarus says. Michael Rambo, and other musicians and performers. On July 11, Lazarus will be helping to raise funds for their work at a performance featuring his group, the Chuck Lazarus Band, including former Prince keyboardist Tommy Barbarella, singer/actor T. Meanwhile, Lazarus is involved with Arm in Arm in Africa (AIAIA), an organization that supports food, health care and education in African townships. He and the orchestra’s Uptown Brass Quintet are traveling back to South Africa this summer with Classical Movements, which also organized the 2018 tour. When trumpeter Charles Lazarus traveled with the Minnesota Orchestra to South Africa in 2018 as part of its historic tour to that country, the first major American orchestra to go there, it was just one step along a journey.
